I often read interviews of “outdoor people”, and I often read things like: “I’ve always been an outdoor person, I started building my own shelters at the age of 12 along with my father; I started skiing before walking and I climbed my first 6000 when I was 4 y.o”. Ok this example might be a bit exaggerated, but I am sure you know what I mean.
I was born in a flat country, with very little wilderness and no mountain to climb. Maybe I am a little bit jealous of these people who had everything by their doorstep. I chose the outdoors. It wasn’t here, so I had to go and get it on my own. I am no adventurer: I never went to the North Pole nor walked through Siberia in Winter, but in a way I touched my dream as a kid: beeing Davy Crockett.
